It’s Tube Time! Check Out Recent Tube Fabrication & Welding Projects

As a leading tube fabrication and welding service, SPEC FAB can bring just about any metal component to life from tube, square, channel or open profile stock!

From initial design review, to forming, fabrication, welding, finishing and beyond, our team is a true tube fabrication partner that can extend your capacity and help bring your metal products to market.

And thanks to decades of experience working with metal tube stock, and thousands of successful projects, we can fabricate, weld and finish just about anything your team can design.

Read on to learn a little bit about a couple of our recently completed tube fabrication projects!  And contact us today to discuss your next metal fabrication or welding need.

Welded Tube Structures

The welded tube structure shown above is a housing for a modular industrial fan system. These fans can be combined and stacked to create quite a bit of airflow! And, the manufacturer trusts SPEC FAB to deliver the housings on spec and on time as their inventory needs evolve throughout the year.

To create these housings, the components are cut from mild steel using both tube laser and flat laser cutting processes. During the cutting process, the metal is tabbed and slotted to allow for fast and accurate assembly.

Once fitted up, our welding techs use MIG welding processes to fabricate each unit. When welding is complete, the units are powder coated and finally shipped off to our customer.

Thanks to a high level of quality, and on-time delivery of parts and components, we are able to help our clients manage their complex supply chains more easily.

Steel Tube Fabrication

The tube components shown above are “feet” for a complex laser grading system. These systems are used by commercial site contractors to level huge swaths of land for construction, sports fields, and other uses.

The client reached out to SPEC FAB when they were having difficulty meeting quality standards with the tapped holes necessary to complete their components.

Starting with tube laser cutting, flat laser cutting, and machining of mild steel material, our team created the necessary component parts for the project. Once the parts were created, we used a robust fixturing system to align the component parts for welding.

We created these fixtures to ensure a high-quality outcome, including measurements to within the customer’s specified tolerances.

This system of fixturing allows us to produce thousands of parts with an incredibly high level of repeatability. Even the tapping processes that were previously causing problems with the components became a non-issue, thanks to smart design, expert fabrication, and a well-defined process.

Tube Structures for the Entertainment Industry

The component shown above is a stair unit for a parade float. It was created from mild steel tube and angle iron. The tubing was laser cut into component parts, and fitted up for assembly following the client’s detailed drawings.

An interesting aspect of this project was the client’s desire for CWI inspection and approval. To ensure maximum quality of the structure, and therefore maximum safety for parade performers, we worked with a Certified Welding Inspector who monitored the project and signed off on each weld.

When it comes to quality, our team delivers! So it was no surprise that the inspector found no issues and signed off on the project without any rework. The stairs were then delivered to our client and incorporated successfully into their parade float.

Fabricating Pressure Tested Tube Vessels

These interesting finished components shown above are release valves that are part of a process piping system. Our customer supplies stainless steel raw material, and then the SPEC FAB team gets to work fabricating the components.

After performing final cutting and machining of the supplied components, we fit them up for welding in custom designed fixtures that are unique to this project.

Using a combination of TIG and Flux Core MIG welding, we build the components and ensure that they are completely sealed. The final step in our process is pressure testing of each vessel to ensure that it meets the desired specification and there will be no leakage even under pressure.

Our ability to create these weldments is a testament to our project management capabilities. This is because some component parts of this project are created in-house at SPEC FAB, some are provided by the client, some are cut, some are machined – but all must be flawlessly executed for final fit up and welding in order to create a sealed vessel.

We are proud of the way our team executes this complicated project and delivers these parts consistently throughout the year!
